Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at Images Cinema

- March 27, 2007

Images Cinema presents their spring fundraiser on Sunday, April 22 at 7pm: a screening of the classic 1920 film DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE with a live musical score by the Devil Music Ensemble. The performance will be followed by pie à la mode, which is included in the ticket price. Images Cinema is located at 50 Spring Street, Williamstown.

Tickets are $30; $25 for Images Cinema members; $15 for the first three rows. Ticket price includes popcorn, soda, and after the show, pie à la mode. Ticket reservations can be made at the box office or over the phone (413-458-1039) with a credit card.

The 1920 version of DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE stars legendary actor John Barrymore, and relates the story of a doctor who seeks to separate the two natures of man, so one could "yield to every evil impulse, yet leave the soul untouched." The film explores the thin line between good and evil, and the conflict between the two in the same person. The film is revitalized with the modern soundtrack provided by the Devil Music Ensemble.

According to Dylan Skolnick, director of programming at the Cinema Arts Centre, “The Devil Music Ensemble has established itself as one of the primary American groups composing and performing scores for silent films, and can be spoken of in the same breath as groups like the Alloy Orchestra and the Tin Hat Trio.”

The Boston-based Devil Music Ensemble is comprised of Brendon Wood on guitars, lap steel, and synthesizer; Jonah Rapino on electric violin, vibraphone, and synthesizer; and Tim Nylander on drums, percussion and synthesizer. The DME has been on numerous tours playing soundtracks for silent film; performing in museums, theaters, performing arts centers, and college campuses. The DME recently completed a 7-week tour that took them all over the entire United States.

The DME performance experience is versatile and genre-spanning. They strive to explore different sonic territory with every new project they undertake, keeping audiences surprised and coming back to hear and see whatever they are doing next. One of the few year-round single-screen nonprofit cinemas left in the country, Images Cinema is ever expanding its programming to meet the educational and cultural needs of the community, while maintaining its dedication to quality independent film. Images Cinema is supported in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Current happenings are listed at www.imagescinema.org.
